Cornwall walks in the Towns and Villages

Surprising though it may seem by far the most popular choice of many visitors to the County is not walking the coast or moors but exploring the towns and villages. Launceston with its hilltop castle. The Harbour at St Ives. Delightful Fowey, with the bonus of a boat trip up river.

Launceston

Castle Launceston Launceston Often missed by many visitors is a delightful hilltop town. Buildings of many architectural styles surround its main square. All over looked by a Norman Castle, offering superb views over the surrounding countryside.

St Ives

st ives St Ives in the far West, with a magnificent harbour. Narrow streets, a window shopper's delight. The Island with St Nicholas's Church. A breakwater extended by Smeaton. Boats bobbing on an incoming tide.

Newlyn

newlyn Newlyn A working port and as such not visited by that many tourists. But full of hustle and bustle. Beam trawlers, crabbers, longliners too. A colourful scene. The village itself clings to the hillside, with many narrow alleys and passages.

Mousehole

Christmas Lights Mousehole A mile or so along the coast from Newlyn. Mousehole is yet another picturesque Cornish Fishing Village. Granite houses overlooking the harbour. Their illuminations at Christmas draw huge crowds.

Fowey

Fowey fowey A harbour full of pleasure craft in summer. Fowey Town itself clings to the hill side. Full of character having many narrow streets to explore. Visit the Du Maurier Literary Centre in narrow Fore Street running parallel with the waterfront. The beautiful St Fimbarrus Church. Secret gardens, such as the Old Boys Grammar School, alive with roses in summer. Climb the granite steps of Bull Hill. Lots of restaurants and inns.
