St Mawes on the Roseland Peninsula

St Mawes. In a very sheltered spot at the junction of the Percuil River and Carrick Roads on the Roseland Peninsula on the South Coast of Cornwall Guarded by a Castle built on the orders of Henry VIII.

A yachtsmen's and walkers delight in summer boats bobbing in the harbour. Windsurfers catching the breeze. The local sailing club often hold races during the season. In season take a boat trip across the Fal Estuary to Falmouth. Or the passenger ferry across the River to Place to explore nearby St Anthony Headland, St Anthony Lighthouse guarding the Roads.

Maybe a walk in the National Trust woodland along side the Percuil River? Or maybe a drive to the Roseland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and St Just Church. Stopping off at Veryan to see the Roundhouses on the way.

Why not visit Lamorran Gardens on Castle Hill for hours of sub tropical splendour, with good views of the Bay and across to St Anthony Headland. Essentially Mediterranean styled with Japanese influences, particularly the water garden. With a large collection of azaleas, palms and rhododendrons and succulents.
